Tameside Council – Community Engagement

As part of community engagement on climate change, Tameside Council held a Green Summit in November 2018. This summit was a call to action for organisations and individuals from across a range of partners in Tameside – businesses, public services and voluntary and community groups were all involved in the summit. Attendees heard from a number of leading local figures, including representatives from the local Ikea who talked about their sustainability practices.

At the end of the summit, attendees made pledges about what their organisations could do in this area. Tameside Council made two key pledges around energy demand on the council estate and retrofitting, and around a tree planting programme in the local area.

The summit is part of Tameside’s contribution to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s 5five year Environment Plan and the target for the Greater Manchester area to be carbon neutral by 2038.
