Lancaster City Council have declared a Climate Emergency and are looking at the different ways that they can become carbon neutral by 2030, as well as working with partners to achieve the same across the district. It is recognised that engaging with the council’s staff is a crucial way of generating new ideas and buy-in about how the council can play its part in tackling climate change.
Senior officers and cabinet members have held drop-in sessions with staff to get their ideas, as well as talking to them about the things that they’ll need to do as staff to play their part in this – such as reducing energy usage, change how they travel to work and getting the message out to the wider community. One of the outcomes of these drop in sessions has been to set up a Climate Change Officer Working Group to make the ideas that the staff have had into a reality.
