Islington Council is providing local residents with locally-sourced green energy.
Since 2012, Islington have connected homes to green energy supplied through the Bunhill District Heat Network, which is fed by a local energy centre. The ground-breaking scheme uses waste heat created from producing electricity to create hot water which now supplies heating for 800 homes, two leisure centres and offices.
In 2017, Islington launched London’s first municipal energy provider for over 100 years. Angelic Energy provides over 2,000 London residents with 100% renewable energy sourced from UK-based wind and solar energy. This is promised to save locals up to £277 each per year, reducing fuel poverty.
