Waltham Forest Council – Going Plastic Free in its Town Centres

The Council is currently participating in a Low Plastic Zone initiative, led by the North London Waste Authority, and Leytonstone Town Centre has been picked to pilot the scheme in Waltham Forest.

The Council have signed up 64 businesses in Leytonstone, who have each committed to reducing an area of plastic from their operations, like becoming a water refill point for reusable bottles or switching disposable plastic cutlery with reusable alternatives.

The businesses are now being provided with free tips and guidance and will be assessed on whether they’ve achieved their plastic reduction target over the coming months.

If the scheme is successful and helps to make Leytonstone into a Low Plastic Zone, Waltham Forest Council aims to roll out the initiative in its other Town Centres.
