Telford & Wrekin Council – Climate Change Fund

Telford & Wrekin Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has committed to ensuring that its operations and activities are carbon neutral by 2030.

Beyond this commitment, the council has also set out an aspiration to achieve the goal of borough neutrality by 2030, to be achieved by working with partners, residents and businesses.

The council has taken a number of steps to help meet this borough-wide target, including launching the Telford and Wrekin Climate Change Fund in February 2021. The £100k fund offers grants of up to £5k to help local organisations realise projects to reduce their carbon footprint and support a green recovery at a local level.

Applications for grants are invited from parish and town councils, small businesses, community groups, friends groups, faith groups, schools and nurseries, and funds are to be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce consumption and implement activities around climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Not only does this new fund drive community engagement with the climate change agenda, but it will also help the council achieve its borough-wide carbon neutral aspiration.
