Stockport Council has been designated as the first ever Mayoral Development Corporation outside of London, as part of its plans to redevelop the west of Stockport town centre. Key to these plans are the aims of developing sustainably with green spaces, green buildings including roof gardens, and public spaces and transport built in. Further information on these plans can be found here.
This is consistent with a strand of ‘green’ architecture and redevelopment through a number of projects, including our Sorting Office redevelopment (currently underway) and upcoming £42million Transport Interchange which will include a new two-acre park in the heart of the town centre- on its roof. This replaces our current tarmacked Bus Station, creating a new, green public space with trees.
