Stockport Council have launched a campaign to raise awareness of the need to combat littering and recycle called ‘We Love Stockport’ campaign – a partnership with Keep Britain Tidy. This has included profile raising events, social media activity and provides sources of assistance and advice for people wishing to involve themselves in activities related to recycling and cleaning up the Borough.
As part of this campaign, Stockport Council now offer a ‘responsible dog owners’ pledge’, a ‘plastics pledge’ and a Stockport Business Awards scheme to encourage local businesses to address their impact on the local environment. This is aligned with Stockport Labour’s manifesto target to achieve the highest recycling rates in the North West of England.
Stockport has a strong record on percentage of household waste being recycled, ranking 22nd of over 350 Local Authorities listed in in the 2017-18 Lets Recycle Council rankings. The council has also set an ambition to have the highest proportion of recycled household waste in the North West.
