South Tyneside Council – Holborn District Heating Network

The Holborn district heating scheme in South Shields hopes to harness heat from abandoned flooded mines, as well as from the River Tyne. The £23million project is expected to save 2,436 tonnes of carbon and £800k a year. The first phase of testing and enabling works, which includes drilling of boreholes, is underway.
