A new Energy SuperHub consisting of the world’s largest commercial hybrid energy storage facility, 100 rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging points has been built in Oxford. This will enable the electrification of transport in the area (including Oxford City Council’s fleet), as well as creating ground source heat pumps.
The £41 million project will include giant batteries with a total capacity of 50MW to balance more intermittent renewable energy on the grid and enable 300 homes to halve their carbon footprint from heating and reduce operating costs by 25% with innovative heat pumps that can be controlled via smart phones. The project is being backed by £41 million of funding, and involve a consortium led by Pivot Power and including Oxford City Council.
