The Oldham Code is something that Oldham Council have recently started developing. Along with requirements for better insulation and rainwater harvesting, the code is likely to include a requirement for high-efficiency heating based on a project called Rethinking Electricity Distribution Without Load Following (RED WoLF). RED WoLF is an Interreg North West Europe project that Oldham Council is working on with 14 partners.
The aim of the project is to develop a new design of an all-electric heating system, combining solar cell renewable energy generation with battery storage and modern storage heaters, for use in Oldham homes and across Greater Manchester. This will support the Greater Manchester 5-year Environment Plan to transition domestic heating systems from gas to electricity. The hope is that if the Oldham Code is successfully adopted, it too can eventually be rolled out across Greater Manchester.
