Gateshead Council is exploring ways to support an equitable transition to clean energy sources that will achieve significant carbon reductions. The Integrated Gas and Electricity Research Laboratory (InTEGReL) is a partnership project between the private sector, public sector and academia, based in a site at Winlaton Mill. The site provides a rare opportunity for research into decarbonising gas, water, electricity, and transport, and its potential contribution to a low-carbon future was recognised by stakeholders at our February 2020 workshop. The Council is working with partners to secure funding for this important project, that could facilitate growth across the low-carbon energy sector.
