Durham County Council has established a county-wide carbon and environment partnership which works closely with Durham University, Northumbrian Water, The Coal Authority, the Environment Agency, Federation of Small Businesses, Durham Energy Institute, Durham Community Action, our network of school, local businesses and voluntary organisations, and many others as well as the relevant Government departments. Departments across the council are engaged, so as to ensure a holistic approach.
The council also runs several transnational European, Erasmus and Innovate UK projects which involve sharing good practice with UK and overseas partners. With the declaration of a Climate Emergency, a county-wide consultation is being undertaken and a web-based engagement tool is under development to maximise public engagement. The council is also establishing a children and young people’s consultation mechanism.
