As part of the planning and construction of new developments in the Bradford City Council area, planning guidance has been issued through the West Yorkshire Low Emissions Strategy (WYLES), a collaboration between the West Yorkshire local authorities, to improve air quality.
The guidance aims to secure a range of sustainable travel planning measures including the installation of electric vehicle charging points for new properties. This has been planning policy in Bradford since August 2013, meaning that sustainable travel planning has been part of new housing developments, supermarkets and community buildings. Since the policy came into force, approximately 5,000 homes in the Bradford City Council area have had electric charging points installed.
