Durham County Council – Eco2 Smart Schools Programme

The ECO2 Smart Schools Programme is a comprehensive education support offer from Durham County Council which helps schools to become environmentally smart, reduce energy bills and support teaching. The in-school support element is provided by OASES, a Durham based outdoor and sustainability education charity.

The flexible offer is provided to schools that have bought into a service level agreement from the council, as well as in-school support they get comprehensive utilities billing support. The programme has been effective saving schools in the county collectively over £7 million and 19,000 tonnes/CO2 and contributed significantly to our Carbon Management Programme and more latterly Climate Emergency Response Plan.
