Plymouth City Council – Cycle Champions
Plymouth City Council wanted to increase the number of cyclists in the city, to listen to the views of cyclists on a more regular basis, and improve the facilities available to cyclists.
Councillor Jeremy Goslin was appointed as the Cycling Champion in 2018 and launched the Bike Links Wheels to Work programme, in which individuals for whom transport is identified as a barrier preventing them from getting to either work or training are loaned a bike and equipment and given cycle training. Bike Links Wheels to Work is part of Plymouth City Council’s Plymotion project and aims to support residents who are struggling to access employment, education and training opportunities.
In his role as Cycling Champion, Councillor Goslin is championing cycling across the city, including investment in strategic cycle networks, provision of more cycle parking spaces and lockers, delivery of the Bike It Plus school cycling programme, availability of free adult cycle training, “commuter tutor,” and much more.
